EXHAUSTS › CHECK, REPAIR, REPLACE

At Low Cost Tyres, Mildenhall we have years of experience identifying problems with exhaust systems on a wide range of makes and models.  We can locate a problem quickly, recommend a solution from repairs to replacements, then provide a good, quick service that will get you back on the road without your car sounding like a tank.

Give Ian and the team a call, send an email or book your car in with our form.

A different sound from your exhaust is often the first clue something is not right.  Puffing or blowing sounds, a 'whubbing' noise, chugging, hissing or a generally louder exhaust can indicate issues.  Squeaking, rattling, knocking and banging can tell you something is loose or broken.

Another indicator of a broken or damaged exhaust is a strong smell of exhaust and/or exhaust smells inside the car.  You should get your vehicle booked in if these are noticeable.

SHOULD I GET MY EXHAUST CHECKED?

You can listen out for problems with your exhaust, and if able, take a look under the car to see if you can identify a fault. If you find a problem, or want us to diagnose what's going on just give us a call or use the booking inquiry form and we'll get you taken care of.

MOUNTS
Mounting/support brackets, rubbers, hangers etc. all hold your exhaust in place but they are susceptible to wear and corrosion.  A visual inspection identifies these problems quite quickly. If anything is broken or missing it should be fixed, otherwise stresses occur in system components and they will fail prematurely.

CRACKS & BLOCKAGES
The hissing sound that can come from under the car is often caused by failing gaskets and pin holes.  A blockage in the exhaust system can cause chugging. In either case get your car booked in and the team will find the fault.

CORROSION & HOLES
Louder and different exhaust sounds along with a strong exhaust smell indicate problems.  Joints between components like the manifold, cat' and silencer can be the first to go. Areas prone to rust like pipes and the silencer may be the cause of issues.

ROTTEN EGGS
Something else entirely.  If your car fumes smell of sulphur you should get booked in for a catalytic converter check.

IAN'S ACE TIPS

If you find the smell from your exhaust has changed (other than rotten eggs as mentioned) then it likely an issue at the engine.  Ask us for advice.

OILY
A hot oil smell caused by burning oil will make the exhaust blue in colour and smell quite strong.

SWEET
Sweet smelling exhaust could be caused by antifreeze on the engine, caused by a leak in the coolant system.

PETROL
The smell of petrol from the exhaust is probably caused by your engines fuel/air mix, get it checked.
